Keep Your Teeth Healthy During a Zombie Apocalypse

Town Center Dentistry has tips to keep your teeth healthy and clean during a zombie apocalypse. Brush and floss with twigs, apples, thread and more.

If you’re truly prepared for the zombie apocalypse, you’ll have a decent sized stash of toothbrushes, toothpaste, and floss. But even if it happens before you have a chance to prepare, you’ll still need to take care of your teeth.

The same rules will apply: brush twice a day, floss daily, and use a mouth rinse to help wash away bacteria.

So, what will you do if you don’t have a toothbrush? How will you keep your teeth healthy during a zombie apocalypse? Well, just in case you can’t find a pharmacy that hasn’t been looted of the tools of oral health maintenance, here are some options for creating your own.

Zombie apocalypse toothbrush options

Twigs to brush teeth

First you have to tear off a twig from small tree branch. Then, you have to chew the end until it’s no longer hard and scratchy but instead is frayed and kind of mushy. Only then can you begin to brush your teeth with it without causing damage to your teeth and gums. You’ll probably want to use each twig toothbrush only once.

Apples to clean teeth

They’re considered “nature’s toothbrush.” They’re mildly acidic and stringent. That plus their rough-ish fiber make them a great food for getting your teeth clean. But make sure to use a rinse (see below) afterward to rid your teeth of the sugars in the apple.

Your finger as a toothbrush

Not someone else’s. You probably know this from summer camp already, but a finger is better than nothing when it comes to getting the plaque off your teeth. Using one of the zombie apocalypse toothpaste options below with help you feel like it’s actually making a difference.

Zombie apocalypse toothpaste options

Olive oil as toothpaste

While the toothbrush you made (above) cleans the plaque from your teeth, the olive oil will help prevent more bacteria from clinging to your them.

Hydrogen peroxide as toothpaste

Another good option because it will kill bacteria and keep your teeth nice and white (which might actually still matter. Who knows?).

Baking soda to clean teeth

Works great to clean the teeth, and you can add a little water to it to make a paste that resembles toothpaste more than the other two options will. If you come across some cinnamon oil or clove oil, add a drop or two to the mix and give your zombie apocalypse toothpaste both flavor and anti-bacterial properties.

Zombie apocalypse floss

Thread as floss

It’s pretty much all you have to work with when it comes to flossing your teeth. But, as with your toothpaste above, you can flavor it and make it anti-bacterial if can get your hands on some cinnamon oil or clove oil.

Zombie apocalypse mouthwash

Saltwater as mouthwash

Put two tablespoons of salt in an 8-ounce glass of water. Stir. Then use it as a mouth rinse to kill bacteria that cause gum disease and cavities. Kinda basic, but that’s ok. You’ll have other things on your mind anyway.

Honey lemon cinnamon rinse as mouthwash

Squeeze the juice from 2 lemons. Add the lemon juice plus 1½ teaspoons of honey and ½ teaspoon of cinnamon to a cup of warm water. Then rinse. If honey, lemons, and cinnamon are hard to find during the zombie apocalypse, save this one for special occasions.
